Hello, my name is Sarah. I was quite surprised to be diagnosed recently with something that I thought was exclusive to survivors of combat situations: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My PTSD comes on the heels of the seven months my triplets just spent in the NICU. They were delivered at 25 weeks gestation via emergency C-section weighing between 1 lb 5 oz and 1 lb 6 oz.
One of the major symptom categories of PTSD is avoidance & numbing. Although I frequently remember vivid snapshots of what happened to my family in the months we spent in the hospital, I feel like I can’t put these experiences into words. It keeps me from working through those memories and healing. I hope to use this blog as a safe place to say the things I cannot say in my everyday life. Also, I’m raising triplets. Oh, my goodness.
